Insurance Authority Interacted with Karnali State Government

Kathmandu : In the organization of Nepal Insurance Authority a discussion and interaction program related to insurance was completed on November 11th with the Government of Karnali Province at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers of Karnali Province, Birendra Nagar, Surkhet.

The chief guest in the program, Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Raj Kumar Sharma said that in order to expand the reach of insurance, insurance companies should not only focus on urban areas but also reach rural areas and emphasize on the development of public awareness about insurance. He urged to ensure that those who want to get insurance can get insurance easily and get claim payment without any hassle and pointed out the need to make it clear how benefits can be obtained from insurance.

Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority, Surya Prasad Silwal, said that the provincial government should bring an insurance-related policy and emphasize on expanding the scope of insurance by connecting insurance with services. He mentioned that since a small amount of money can provide a lot of financial security through insurance, it is necessary to insure the house and property and not only during the lease but also after the completion of the construction, the attention of the relevant agencies should be paid to insuring the physical infrastructure.

Chairman Silwal suggested that it would be appropriate for the provincial government to identify target locations and groups and arrange insurance subsidies, and informed that the authority is ready to arrange insurance based on the needs of Karnali province.

Expressing his welcome speech at the program, Rajuraman Paudel, Executive Director of Nepal Insurance Authority, said that the authority is organizing an interaction program with the provincial government and local governments regarding the development of the insurance sector and expanding the scope of insurance, raising awareness about insurance and solving insurance-related problems. In the program, Director of Nepal Insurance Authority Poojan Dhungel (Officer) made a presentation on the overall issues related to insurance.

The participants in the program said that insurance companies did not pay attention to animal insurance did not insure pigs, insurance companies were concentrated only in district headquarters, insurance companies did not reach villages, companies did not fulfill their role under corporate social responsibility, it was not seen that insurance is not only a profit but also a service from the activities of the company.

He informed that there are many complaints that one has to go to many places to claim insurance, there are many problems in agricultural insurance, even after the earthquake in Karnali, insurance companies have not contributed to the disaster fund.

Minister of Karnali State Government, Vice Chairman of Karnali State Planning Commission, Principal Secretary of Karnali State Government, Secretary of State Ministry, Chief and Representative of Security Agency in Karnali State, Chief Executive Officer and Representatives of Insurance Company participated in the program.

The program was conducted by Padam Prasad Sodari, Head of Nepal Insurance Authority, Karnali Province Office.
