“There is a need for collective reform to fully operate the Udaypur Cement Factory”-Finance Minister Dr. Mahat
Kathmandu: Finance Minister Dr. Prakashsaran Mahat said that Udaipur cement factory is important for the country. While inspecting the mines used by the industry in Udaipur on 20th of December, he said that the problems of this industry should be solved together.
Minister Dr. Mahat mentioned that there is a possibility of re-operation of the industry only through collective efforts during the factory inspection. Dr. Mahat said that the government will not solve the problem only by giving subsidies. We had to pay attention to the management, the workers working here also had to take responsibility. This situation is created when no one takes responsibility. He said that we have to learn from the past and change ourselves in present to improve the cement Factory.
Mentioning that many industries and businesses are operated by the private sector, Minister Dr. Mahat said that it is necessary to address the grievances of the workers. He said, the private sector buys land by itself, builds industrial structures by itself, buys machines with loans and operates them. It earns profit even after paying all operating expenses.
Whereas Japanese government has supported the operation of the Udaypur cement factory. 440 million Rupees were invested in the factory during its establishment. Even now, the factory does not have to pay the interest of one billion. It is enough to fulfill the obligation of operating expenses. But the factory has not been able to fulfill it. Minister Dr.Mahat said that now the factory has a liability of 750 million Rupees.
He also said that there is also fault of the Government while appointing a manager, there is also a weakness there. We did not give importance to professionalism. The leadership of the management was also weak, the workers did not fulfill their responsibilities but insisted they demand only facilities. That is why the current state of the industry has come in this situation. But everything will change in coming future if all of the Government responsible authorities, locals and even the workers come together and work for the development of this factory.
