“Red corner notice” Issued by Interpol to arrest Dhorpatan mayor, Nepali, who escaped by cheating cooperatives saving amount

Kathmandu : The police has issued a ‘Red Corner Notice’ to arrest Dev Kumar Nepali, the mayor of Dhorpatan in Baglung and the president of Image Savings and Credit Co-operative Society, who is absconding after committing co-operative fraud. A ‘Red Corner Notice’ has been issued to arrest him who went missing after embezzling Rs.1.5 billion from savers and Rs.350 million from various banks.A case is going on against 8 people including Nepali and his wife for misappropriating the funds of the cooperative.

However, President Nepali has been absconding since last April. In order to arrest the same Nepali and his wife Chela Nepali, the Police Headquarters has issued a ‘Red Corner Notice’ through the International Police Network (Interpol) of police around the world.

The co-operative victims complained that the Chairman Nepali is hiding abroad and that a red corner notice should be issued. DSP Madan KC of Baglung said that Interpol has issued a red corner notice to arrest the Nepali’s couple.

1,550 people filed a police complaint against them. Based on the complaint, the public prosecutor’s office has filed a case of organized fraud in the district court. The court had issued an arrest warrant against them in May. But they escaped by hiding the notice saying that it was closed due to lack of liquidity since April-May 2023.

Nepali have embezzled 1 billion 60 million rupees from the savers of the cooperative. It has been seen that Nepali’s have taken almost 350 million loans from Global IME Bank, National Cooperative Bank and Garima Bikas Bank. also along with Chitra Bahadur Bhandari, Narmati Budha, Shakti Kisan, Dor Bahadur Periyar and Anita Budhamgar have been already arrested in the case.
