Vice President Yadav Urges Qatar for 24-Hour Insurance for Nepali Workers
Kathmandu – Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has urged the Qatari government to introduce 24-hour insurance coverage for Nepali migrant workers and extend humanitarian support to those facing difficulties in Qatar.
During a meeting with Qatari Ambassador to Nepal, Mishaal Bin Mohamed Ali Al-Ansari, at the Vice President’s Office in Lainchaur, Vice President Yadav voiced concerns about the challenges Nepali workers face in the Gulf nation. He specifically highlighted the plight of those in hospitals, deportation centers, and prisons.
“A total of 67 Nepalis are serving prison sentences and many are without any official document” he noted, calling for swift action to address their hardships.
He appealed to the Qatari government to consider granting amnesty or reducing prison sentences for incarcerated Nepalis and to assist undocumented workers in either regularizing their status or facilitating their safe return to Nepal. He also expressed hope for continued collaboration between the two nations to address labor issues and humanitarian concerns.
In response, Ambassador Al-Ansari reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and highlighted the importance of increasing investments in Nepal. He assured the Vice President that Qatar values its ties with Nepal and is keen to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation. – RSS
