Rastriya Beema Company Faces Allegations of Corruption in Software Procurement

December 26th, 2024

Kathmandu – Rastriya Beema Company has come under scrutiny over allegations of corruption and irregularities in the procurement process of core insurance software. The company is reportedly in the final stages of purchasing the software from Arihant, a firm specializing in insurance-related software, under controversial conditions that allowed only a single bidder to participate.

The tender for the software, published on November 21, has raised serious concerns about its integrity. Reports suggest significant procedural errors during the tender process, pointing to potential favoritism. Sources claim that Shivahari Shrestha, the CEO of the Rastriya Beema Company, is involved in facilitating the questionable deal, continuing a pattern of alleged misconduct within the organization.

Rastriya Beema Company has been embroiled in accusations of financial irregularities for some time. Investigations into prior instances of corruption are still ongoing, and the current software procurement controversy has only intensified calls for accountability. Critics warn that such actions could lead to legal consequences for those involved.

CEO Shrestha has faced criticism for his refusal to comment on the allegations. When approached for clarification regarding the procurement process and the claims of corruption, he declined to provide any response.

The unfolding scandal has sparked widespread concern about governance and ethical practices in the state-owned Rastriya Beema company.
