Nepal Insurance Authority Introduces Pig Insurance Policy
Kathmandu – The Nepal Insurance Authority has taken a significant step in expanding its insurance offerings with the introduction of a pig-specific insurance policy. The decision, which was issued on Poush 4 (December 19, 2024), marks a shift from the previous practice of including pigs, boars, mules, and livestock under a general livestock insurance policy.
Prior to this, livestock involved in animal husbandry had been insured through the broader livestock insurance policy that was in place before 2080.04.01. However, the new directive ensures that pigs, boars, and mules will now be covered under a dedicated pig insurance policy.
On Poush 23 (January 7, 2025), the authority further instructed all licensed non-life insurance companies to offer coverage for these animals under the newly implemented policy.
