Non-Life Insurance Companies in Nepal Invest Over NPR 68 Billion in Various Sectors

Kathmandu – Non-life insurance companies in Nepal have made substantial investments across diverse sectors, surpassing NPR 68 billion by the second quarter of the current fiscal year. According to data published by the Nepal Insurance Authority, 14 non-life insurance companies regulated by the authority have collectively invested NPR 68.74 billion under the prescribed guidelines.
Among these companies, Siddhartha Premier Insurance stands out as the highest investor, allocating NPR 8.61 billion to sectors such as education, banking, and infrastructure development. Rastriya Beema Company, a government-owned entity, follows closely in second place, with a total investment of NPR 8.12 billion in similar sectors.
NECO Insurance ranks third with investments totaling NPR 6.53 billion, while Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance has invested NPR 6.48 billion. IGI Prudential Insurance and Himalayan Everest Insurance have also made significant contributions, with investments of NPR 5.21 billion and NPR 5.06 billion, respectively.
Other notable investments include NPR 4.78 billion by Nepal Insurance, NPR 4.76 billion by Shikhar Insurance, NPR 3.95 billion by United Ajod Insurance, NPR 3.78 billion by The Oriental Insurance, and NPR 3.47 billion by Sanima GIC Insurance. Similarly, National Insurance has invested NPR 2.77 billion, NLG Insurance NPR 2.68 billion, and Prabhu Insurance NPR 2.49 billion during the review period.
The data reveals that non-life insurance companies have channeled the largest portion of their investments, NPR 53.45 billion, into fixed deposits with banks and financial institutions. Furthermore, they have invested NPR 4.39 billion in the shares of listed public companies, NPR 520 million in government savings bonds and treasury bills, and NPR 3.05 billion in preference shares, bonds, and debentures of banks and financial institutions.
In addition, the companies have allocated NPR 1.34 billion in bonds and debentures of listed public companies, NPR 833.9 million in the Citizen Investment Trust and mutual funds, NPR 120.7 million in shares of investment companies, and NPR 1.56 billion in other founder shares.
