Singapore Launches Online Tool to Compare Health Insurance Premiums and Plans

March 28th, 2025

Singapore (CNA) — An online tool designed to help Singaporeans compare health insurance premiums and plans across different providers. The new Health Insurance Planner (HIP) also aims to help users better understand the long-term MediSave and cash expenses required to support their coverage.

Central Provident Fund Board (CPF) and Ministry of Health (MOH) stated that, the HIP allows Singaporeans to visualize their long-term MediSave savings and health insurance premiums. It also enables them to compare key features and costs across Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) based on their preferred ward type and project up to 30 years of premiums for both their chosen IP and rider.

Singapore’s healthcare insurance system comprises three tiers: MediShield Life, IPs, and riders. MediShield Life is the national basic health insurance plan available to all Singaporeans, providing “universal and lifelong protection against large hospitalization bills and outpatient treatments such as cancer and dialysis.”

IPs, which are purchased by seven in 10 Singaporeans, offer additional coverage for treatment at private hospitals or unsubsidised wards in public hospitals. Some policyholders also purchase riders to reduce co-payments for IPs. While IP premiums can be partially paid using MediSave, rider premiums must be paid fully in cash.
