Commercial Banks’ Profits Exceed Rs 41 Billion in First Nine Months of FY 2081/82

Kathmandu — Commercial banks in Nepal have collectively earned over Rs 41 billion in profit in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, showing a slight growth compared to the same period last year.
According to financial reports published by the 20 commercial banks currently in operation, they have posted a combined profit of Rs 41.25 billion. This marks a 1.40 percent increase from the Rs 40.68 billion profit recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Nabil Bank has maintained its lead as the highest profit-making bank, with its net profit rising by 8.21 percent to Rs 5.51 billion. In the same period last year, the bank had earned Rs 4.66 billion.
Nepal Investment Mega Bank followed closely, with a profit of Rs 4.54 billion, reflecting a significant 38.61 percent growth. Global IME Bank earned Rs 4.53 billion, up by 37.12 percent, while Everest Bank posted Rs 3.45 billion, an increase of 32.55 percent. Nepal Bank ranked fifth, reporting a staggering 2032 percent increase in profit to Rs 2.78 billion.
Among the mid-tier banks, NMB Bank posted a 5.88 percent rise in profit to Rs 2.37 billion. However, not all banks saw gains. Prime Bank’s profit fell by 22.56 percent to Rs 2.22 billion, and Standard Chartered Bank’s profit decreased by 11.17 percent to Rs 2.17 billion.
Other banks experienced mixed results. Prabhu Bank earned Rs 1.87 billion, a modest 3.51 percent rise from last year. Agriculture Development Bank’s profit dropped by 10.17 percent to Rs 1.84 billion, while Siddhartha Bank saw a slight decline of 0.94 percent, bringing its profit to Rs 1.66 billion. Sanima Bank and Laxmi Sunrise Bank both earned Rs 1.65 billion, with profits increasing by 14.80 percent and 2.24 percent respectively.
Rastriya Banijya Bank faced a sharp drop, with its profit falling by 49.29 percent to Rs 1.20 billion. Nepal SBI Bank also posted Rs 1.20 billion in profit, Machhapuchhre Bank earned Rs 1.10 billion, and Citizens Bank recorded Rs 961.8 million.
Himalayan Bank’s profit stood at Rs 500 million, while Kumari Bank earned Rs 285.8 million and NIC Asia Bank reported Rs 156.7 million.
