Health Insurance Renewal Now Available Online via Payment Wallets and IPS

May 8th, 2025

Kathmandu – The Health Insurance Board has introduced an online renewal system for health insurance policies. Citizens can now renew their health insurance through payment service providers, including popular mobile wallets and the Interbank Payment System (IPS).

Executive Director of the Health Insurance Board, Dr. Raghuraj Kafle, informed that the new system is integrated with the Nagarik app, making it easier for users to access and renew their policies from their mobile devices. The initiative is expected to simplify the renewal process and boost user convenience.

This reform comes as part of a broader effort by Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Poudel, to modernize health insurance services. Based on his proposal, the Cabinet recently approved the provision allowing citizens to access the service from their place of residence within one month of registration.

Although online renewal had been discussed in the past, it had not been implemented until now. Information Officer Vikesh Malla confirmed that the service is finally active, enabling immediate renewals without relying on insurance agents.

Until recently, renewals were only possible through agents, which often caused delays and inconveniences. The Board believes this new digital system will resolve such issues and significantly increase the health insurance renewal rate nationwide.
