Kathmandu – The Nepal Insurance Authority successfully conducted an insurance interaction program at Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality in Dhading district, Bagmati Province, on Sunday.

The program was attended by Deputy Director Purna Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson Krishna Bahadur Thapaliya, Vice-Chairperson Tap Bahadur Shrestha, and Chief Administrative Officer Narbada Ghimire, along with municipal officials and insurance representatives.

Representatives from the municipality’s executive committee and local insurance officials also attended the program, which aimed to raise awareness about insurance practices and address prevailing concerns.

Participants raised key issues such as whether group accident insurance for public representatives and employees is mandatory, and whether local subsidies could be aligned with microinsurance schemes. Concerns were also expressed about delays in claim payments and discrepancies between damages incurred and compensation received.

Chairperson Thapaliya thanked the Authority for hosting the event and emphasized the municipality’s commitment to enhancing insurance coverage. He highlighted that 40% of the local population belongs to the Chepang community, and announced plans to provide group accident insurance for them from the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83. He also pledged future collaboration with insurance stakeholders for expanded outreach.

In response, Deputy Director Thapa addressed the concerns raised and urged all attendees to consider insurance as a vital tool for safeguarding lives and assets.
