Nepal Insurance Authority Establishes Dedicated Courtroom for Insurance Claim Disputes

Kathmandu — The Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) has officially brought into operation a dedicated courtroom at its central office in Kupandol, Lalitpur. The courtroom began functioning from Jestha 21 (5th June), aiming to streamline the hearing and resolution of insurance claim disputes.
Previously, the Authority conducted hearings in its general meeting room, where the Board of Directors would preside over cases. However, with a growing number of complaints and increasing demand for structured dispute resolution, the Board decided to establish a formal courtroom within the Authority’s premises.
The decision to initiate a dedicated courtroom was made during the Authority’s Board meeting held on Falgun 27, 2081 BS (March 11, 2025). The Board instructed management to make all necessary physical and administrative arrangements to commence official proceedings from 1 Jestha 2082 BS (May 15, 2025).
In an inaugural session, a complaint filed by an insured individual—citing non-receipt of an insurance claim was heard. The hearing was chaired by NIA Chairman Sharad Ojha, with Board members Man Bahadur Aryal, Santosh Rijal, and Radha Kumari Pokharel.
To further enhance accessibility and transparency, the Board has also mandated that hearing schedules and case decisions be published regularly on the Authority’s official website.
