Seminar on Engineering Insurance Held in Pokhara

Kathmandu – A one-day seminar focused on engineering insurance was successfully held in Pokhara on Saturday, bringing together industry professionals, regulators, and academics to explore emerging trends and challenges in the insurance sector.
The event was jointly organised by the Nepal Insurance Authority’s Gandaki Province office, Nepal Insurance Professional Society (NIPS), Nepal Insurance Surveyors Association (NISA) Pokhara Chapter, and Nepal Insurance and Risk Management Association (NIRMA).
The seminar was chaired by Badrinath Poudel, President of NIPS Pokhara Chapter, and conducted by Executive Member Suresh Regmi. Surya Bahadur KC served as welcome secretary, while the program was formally inaugurated by Shambhu Prasad Mishra, Chief of the Nepal Insurance Authority for Gandaki Province.
The seminar was structured into four thematic sessions. The first session focused on legal provisions, where speakers emphasized the importance of legal literacy and good governance in insurance practice. In the second session, NIPS President and Pokhara University Associate Professor Dr. Rabindra Ghimire addressed contemporary issues such as digital insurance, climate-related risk, social security, agricultural coverage, cyber threats, artificial intelligence and insurance fraud.
In the third session, Sushil Bajracharya, former CEO of Himalayan General Insurance and Nepal representative of UIB Reinsurance Broker UK, delivered insights on engineering insurance. His presentation covered risk assessment, underwriting, premium determination, policy conditions, exclusions, and required documentation.
The final session featured surveyor and insurance expert Buddhi Raj Adhikari, who spoke on “Risk to Recovery.” He shared practical insights into project types, engineering insurance classifications, and case studies involving Munich Re and the Nepali insurance landscape.
Approximately 90 employees from non-life insurance companies across Gandaki Province attended the program. The event concluded with participant feedback and the distribution of certificates.
