Damage Assessment of Rasuwagadhi Hydropower to Take Time

July 9th, 2025

athmandu – The recent flooding triggered by continuous heavy rainfall has inflicted significant damage on the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project in Rasuwa district, with insurance companies facing difficulties in assessing the losses due to logistical disruptions.

According to Naranath Neupane, Information Officer at Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company, the extent of the damage caused by the flood originating from the Lhende River cannot yet be fully determined.

The flood, which occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, swept away the Nepal-China Miteri Bridge and inflicted damage on the 111-megawatt Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Plant, as well as the nearby dry port.

The damaged hydropower project is insured by Himalayan Everest Insurance Company. However, due to road closures and communication breakdowns, insurers have not yet been able to deploy surveyors to the site. As a result, the company has not been formally notified of the full extent of the damage.

The Authority has urged insurance companies to facilitate the claim settlement process swiftly. Meanwhile, authorities have instructed insurers to begin preparing loss reports based on preliminary data and proceed with the claim payment process as quickly as possible.
