Sebantak Pokharel Takes Oath as Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority

Kathmandu – Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Sebantak Pokharel, has officially assumed the role of Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority. Pokharel took the oath of office today before Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Bishnu Prasad Poudel.

The appointment follows a cabinet decision made on Sunday to designate Pokharel as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Authority until further notice.

His appointment comes amid an ongoing investigation into former Chairman Sharad Ojha. After a formal complaint was filed against Ojha, the government formed a three-member investigation committee in accordance with Sub-section 2 of Section 12 of the Insurance Act 2079. As per the legal provision, Ojha was automatically suspended from his position following the formation of the probe committee.

Pokharel’s leadership is expected to bring stability to the regulatory authority as the inquiry into the previous chairman moves forward.
