July 21st, 2025

Kathmandu – The recent floods in Rasuwa have led to insurance claims totaling Rs 290 million, as per the latest data from the Nepal Insurance Authority. The natural disaster, which struck the region on Ashar 23 (July 7), caused widespread destruction, sweeping away the customs yard, containers loaded with goods, and several imported vehicles — some inspected and others awaiting inspection.

The catastrophe also claimed 11 lives, while 19 individuals are still reported missing.

According to the Authority, 63 additional applications for claims have been registered as of Sunday, with nine insurance companies submitting claims amounting to Rs 289.26 million. The largest portion of the claims falls under marine insurance, which alone accounts for Rs 157 million from just six claims.

Engineering and contractor risk insurance claims have reached Rs 55.5 million from four applications, while ten insured individuals have filed claims worth Rs 41.8 million under property insurance.

Moreover, 43 policyholders — including 32 public and 11 private motels — have filed for compensation totaling Rs 34.9 million under motel insurance policies.

The Insurance Authority is currently processing the claims as part of its efforts to ensure prompt compensation for the affected parties.
