Radha Pokharel Resigns as Director of Nepal Insurance Authority

July 23rd, 2025

Kathmandu – Radha Pokharel, a female director at the Nepal Insurance Authority, has stepped down from her position just five months after her appointment. The Authority confirmed that her resignation, submitted last week, has been officially accepted.
Speaking to Beemapost, Pokharel cited health reasons for her departure, stating that she had been unable to attend recent board meetings and felt it was no longer appropriate to continue in the role.
Her appointment, which took place on Chaitra 1, 2081 (March 14, 2025) through a decision by the Finance Minister, had sparked widespread criticism for allegedly bypassing established insurance sector regulations. Many questioned whether political connections influenced her selection, raising concerns about transparency in appointments to regulatory bodies.
Pokharel was appointed for a four-year term as part of an effort to ensure female representation in the Authority’s leadership. The Nepal Insurance Authority has not yet announced any plans for her replacement.
