Govt to Standardize Pay and Perks Across Public Corporations Including Insurance Sector

July 31st, 2025

Kathmandu — The Government of Nepal has initiated steps to bring uniformity in the salary structures and service facilities of employees across public corporations, including key regulatory bodies such as the Nepal Insurance Authority.

A three-member task force has been formed under the leadership of former Deputy Auditor General Ram Prasad Dotel to study disparities and recommend a standardized framework. Members of the task force include Ram Prasad Shiwakoti and Chandi Prasad Dhimire.

The decision comes amid rising concerns over stark differences in employee benefits among state-funded institutions. Notably, employees of the government-owned Rastriya Beema Company reportedly enjoy more generous service facilities than those at the Nepal Insurance Authority—the very body responsible for overseeing the industry. This imbalance has raised questions about fairness and regulatory motivation within the insurance ecosystem.

The disparities are not limited to the insurance sector. Similar gaps exist between the Nepal Rastra Bank, Securities Board, and the Insurance Authority. The government expects that standardizing facilities will not only enhance the work environment but also balance competitiveness among public institutions.
