Insurance Claims Near Rs 1 Billion for Rasuwa Flood Damages

Kathmandu — The devastating floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in Rasuwa district on 23 Ashar (July 7) have resulted in insurance claims approaching Rs 1 billion. According to the Nepal Insurance Authority, as of 22 Shrawan (August 7), a total of Rs 985.98 million in claims has been filed across 11 non-life insurance companies, with 78 claims submitted in total.

Himalayan Everest Insurance has reported the largest single share of the losses, filing claims worth Rs 550 million for just two cases. Shikhar Insurance has lodged claims totaling Rs 169.6 million from 15 cases, while Nepal Insurance has claimed Rs 87.3 million for 16 cases. Sanima GIC Insurance has filed Rs 68.4 million for six cases, and Neco Insurance has reported Rs 56.7 million in five cases.

Other insurers have also faced significant claims. United Ajod Insurance has reported Rs 9.1 million from three cases, IGI Prudential Insurance has filed Rs 7.67 million from 10 cases, Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance has claimed Rs 2.65 million from two cases, NLG Insurance has reported Rs 4.7 million from six cases, Siddhartha Premier Insurance has filed Rs 3.1 million from seven cases, and Prabhu Insurance has lodged Rs 2.8 million in claims.

By category, property insurance accounted for the largest losses, with Rs 614.7 million claimed from six cases. Marine insurance followed with Rs 224 million from nine cases, while engineering and contractor risk insurance saw Rs 59.5 million from five cases. Motor insurance claims amounted to Rs 35.5 million for 42 public vehicle cases and Rs 55.8 million for 16 private vehicle cases.
