Supreme Court Declines Interim Order on Foreign Employment Term Insurance Pool Case

August 14th, 2025

Kathmandu — The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order on a writ petition challenging the Nepal Insurance Authority’s decision to operate a foreign employment term insurance pool.

A joint bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Sunil Kumar Pokharel decided while hearing the petition against the Authority’s directive issued on 2081.04.01 regarding the operation of the insurance pool.

The petitioners had demanded that the directive be quashed, arguing that the Insurance Authority violated the Insurance Act by introducing the insurance bridge under Section 166. According to them, any group insurance pool should be implemented only by formulating rules as stipulated in Section 168 of the Act.

While the court has not yet issued an interim order, the final hearing on the case is scheduled to take place at a later date, as per the petitioners’ request.
