MetLife Nepal Launches CSR Initiative to Combat Snakebite Risks in Jhapa

Kathmandu — MetLife Nepal, in collaboration with the Kankai Sahara Snakebite Treatment Center in Jhapa, has launched a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at addressing the growing threat of snakebites in the region.
Snakebites remain a significant public health issue in Nepal, claiming hundreds of lives annually, with districts such as Jhapa among the hardest hit. The rise in temperatures and the predominantly agrarian lifestyle of the local population have further heightened community vulnerability. Limited awareness, delays in treatment, and insufficient health facilities continue to contribute to snakebite-related fatalities and long-term health complications.
“Through this partnership, MetLife Nepal and the Kankai Sahara Snakebite Treatment Center aim to build safer, healthier communities by ensuring timely medical care and promoting preventive education in vulnerable areas”, said Nirmal Kajee Shreatha, General Manager of MetLife Nepal.
The newly launched program aims to increase public awareness about snakebite prevention and first aid, enhance access to treatment for rural residents in central Jhapa, and ultimately reduce the number of deaths caused by snakebites. MetLife Nepal’s support will focus on awareness campaigns, encouraging preventive measures, and strengthening access to life-saving treatment.
