Nepal Life and Round Table Nepal Collect 5,000 kg of Waste from Mount Everest under Project Care

Kathmandu — Nepal Life Insurance Company Limited, in collaboration with Round Table Nepal, has successfully collected 5,000 kilograms of waste from Mount Everest under the Project Care campaign. The initiative aims to preserve the natural beauty of the world’s highest peak and prevent it from turning into the “world’s highest garbage dump.”
A special ceremony was held at Nepal Life’s central office in Kamaladi, where Round Table Nepal Chairman Pravesh Agrawal formally handed over the garbage collection report to Nepal Life CEO, Praveen Raman Parajuli. The event was attended by Deputy CEO Amit Kumar Kayal, outgoing Round Table Nepal Chairman Nitesh Kumar Agrawal, representatives of the Everest Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) — the campaign’s technical partner and Khalisisi, a waste management and recycling organization.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO Parajuli expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their collective effort in removing 5,000 kilograms of waste in the first phase. He reaffirmed Nepal Life’s commitment to environmental conservation, stating:
“Mount Everest is not only Nepal’s heritage but also a jewel of the world. Protecting it is our collective responsibility, and Nepal Life is committed to continuing its efforts to safeguard its beauty for future generations.”
Round Table Nepal President Prabesh Agrawal highlighted that while 5,000 kilograms of garbage have already been removed, the organization has set a target to manage 25,000 kilograms of waste in the future. He emphasized that the initiative marks a significant step in addressing long-standing waste issues on Everest.
Mount Everest attracts thousands of climbers each year, but increasing human activity has left behind abandoned tents, oxygen cylinders, food packaging, human waste, and mountaineering equipment. Through Project Care, Nepal Life and Round Table Nepal aim to promote sustainable mountaineering and environmental protection.
