NEPSE Index Drops 38 Points; Majority of Insurance Stocks Decline

Kathmandu – The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) closed lower on the last trading day of the week, with the benchmark index falling by 38.10 points to settle at 2,782 points. Out of the total listed companies, share prices of only 24 companies advanced, while the majority witnessed a decline.
In the insurance subgroup, the performance was mixed. The life insurance index declined by 1.65 percent, while the non-life insurance index managed a marginal gain of 0.01 percent. Despite the overall weakness, the share price of only five insurance companies rose on Thursday.
Among non-life insurance companies, NLG Insurance posted the highest gain, climbing 3.19 percent to Rs 844.26. Other gainers included Himalayan Everest Insurance (+2.08%), Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance (+2.82%), Prabhu Insurance (+0.58%), and Siddhartha Premier Insurance (+1.67%).
Meanwhile, the majority of life insurance companies saw their stock prices decline, which included Guardian Micro Life (-3.20%), Asian Life (-2.37%), National Life (-2.29%), Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life (-2.26%), Himalayan Life (-2.09%), and several others. Smaller declines were also recorded in LIC Nepal (-0.61%), Nepal Life (-1.13%), IME Life (-1.20%), Reliable Nepal Life (-1.90%), Suryajyoti Life (-1.66%), Sun Nepal Life (-1.25%), and Sanima Reliance Life (-1.07%).
In the non-life segment, declines were led by Nepal Micro Insurance (-3.24%), Sanima GIC (-2.24%), Himalayan Re (-2.17%), and Nepal Re (-2.43%). Other insurers included IGI Prudential (-1.34%), Nepal Insurance (-1.27%), Neco Insurance (-0.90%), Shikhar Insurance (-1.16%), United Ajod (-1.40%), and RBCL (-0.60%).
