Recommendation Committee Formed to Appoint New Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority

Kathmandu – A three-member recommendation committee has been formed to select the new chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA). The committee was constituted by a decision of the Council of Ministers on Bhadra 9 (August 25).
The panel is headed by National Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Prof. Dr. Shivaraj Adhikari and includes Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay and insurance expert Dr. Khomraj Kharel as members.
The move follows the government’s decision on Bhadra 2 (August 18) to dismiss the former chairman of the Authority, Sharad Ojha. Now, with the leadership position vacant, the recommendation committee has been tasked with proposing suitable candidates for the post of chairman, a role considered crucial in regulating and guiding Nepal’s growing insurance sector.
