Government Launches Health Insurance Program for Filmmakers

Kathmandu – The Government of Nepal has introduced a health insurance program aimed at ensuring the well-being and social security of filmmakers while supporting the sustainable development of the Nepali film industry.
The initiative, titled “Health Insurance Program for Filmmakers, 2082,” has been launched through the Film Development Board, the regulatory body overseeing Nepali artists, creators, and producers.
Speaking at the program, Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh DC said the inclusion of filmmakers in health insurance marks a significant milestone.
The program was formally inaugurated by Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung during the Special Filmmaker Identity Card Distribution Ceremony. On the occasion, Minister Gurung highlighted the government’s commitment to both the art sector and information technology. “Creators who dedicate their lives to entertaining the nation also face struggles and challenges. This health insurance program is a step toward ensuring their financial and medical security,” he said.

Under the new scheme, filmmakers with a special category identity card will be entitled to annual health insurance coverage worth Rs. 150,000, while those with a film category identity card will receive benefits up to Rs. 75,000.
The Film Development Board stated that the program, introduced in coordination with the Health Insurance Board, will open a new dimension in the social security framework for filmmakers.
