Insurance Claims from Gen Z Protests Reach Rs 20.7 Billion

Kathmandu – The initial insurance claims related to the Gen Z protests that began on Monday, Bhadra 23, have reached a staggering Rs 20.7 billion. According to figures released by the Nepal Insurance Authority on Thursday, a total of 1,984 claims had been filed as of Bhadra 31.
Among the insurers, The Oriental Insurance has received the highest volume of claims, amounting to Rs 5.14 billion from 40 claims filed nationwide. Siddhartha Premier Insurance follows closely, with Rs 4.93 billion in claims filed across 258 cases, while Shikhar Insurance ranks third, having recorded Rs 2.39 billion in claims from 366 policyholders.
Other major insurers have also reported significant claim volumes. IGI Prudential Insurance has registered Rs 1.59 billion in claims across 24 cases, while Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance has logged Rs 1.47 billion for 233 claims. Himalayan Everest Insurance has received Rs 1.15 billion from 196 claims, and Neco Insurance has so far filed Rs 1.95 billion from 40 claims.
Sanima GIC Insurance has recorded Rs 789.3 million from 129 claims, while the government-owned Rastriya Beema Company has registered Rs 495.1 million from 172 cases. United Ajod Insurance has also filed Rs 487.1 million in claims across 170 cases.
Additionally, Nepal Insurance has reported Rs 469.4 million from 79 claims, Rs 385.8 million from 151 claims, Rs 191.8 million from 69 claims, and Rs 68.2 million from 19 claims. Smaller insurers, including micro-insurance companies, have also been affected. Protective Micro Insurance has reported Rs 11.3 million in claims from nine cases, Star Micro Insurance has received Rs 6.7 million from six cases, Nepal Micro Insurance Rs 5.6 million from 15 cases, and Trust Micro Insurance Rs 4.2 million from eight cases.
The Nepal Insurance Authority has urged insurance companies to expedite claim processing in order to provide prompt relief to the victims. The authority has directed insurers to finalize assessments quickly and ensure payments are made without unnecessary delays.
