Government Should Ease Insurance and Reconstruction Process, Says Rajendra Malla

Kathmandu — Rajendra Malla, President of the General Insurance Association of Nepal (GIAN) and outgoing President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, has urged the government to create a conducive environment for settling insurance claims and covering expenses related to damages faced by the private sector.
In a meeting with newly appointed Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Malla highlighted the need for a dedicated relief fund to rebuild national properties damaged during the recent movement. He assured the private sector’s readiness to cooperate fully in reconstruction efforts, particularly for key institutions such as Singha Durbar, the Parliament House, and the Supreme Court.
“We are prepared to support the government, both collectively and individually, in restoring important state structures. It is vital that all concerned agencies act responsibly to ensure economic progress while upholding good governance,” Malla said.
He also emphasized the importance of immediate relief programs for entrepreneurs and business owners affected by the unrest. Addressing the issue of unemployment, he suggested that creating opportunities for youth — even through part-time jobs — could provide short-term solutions while paving the way for broader economic stability.
Malla further recommended that the government introduce policies to boost exports by utilizing the country’s natural resources, alongside promoting domestic production and consumption. Reaffirming the private sector’s commitment, he noted that businesses stand ready to collaborate with the government in driving Nepal toward long-term prosperity.
