PM Karki Pledges Support to Revive the Private Sector After Gen Z Protest Damage

Kathmandu – Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed deep concern over the extensive vandalism and arson that affected the private sector during the recent Gen Z protest, pledging that the government is prepared to assist in its recovery.
During a high-level discussion with representatives of the Industrialists’ Association, industrial houses, and other stakeholders at Singha Durbar on Sunday, PM Karki reaffirmed her commitment to the private sector, emphasizing that the government will provide the necessary support to help businesses recover.
Private sector representatives presented a preliminary assessment of the damage, estimating losses of around NPR 80 billion. They highlighted the need for government support and enhanced security to ensure a safe working environment.
The private sector requested measures including loan restructuring, rescheduling facilities, initiatives to attract investment, and exemptions on income tax. Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), confirmed that the Prime Minister responded positively to these proposals.
Representatives also stressed that unauthorized involvement of the youth during the movement led to significant losses of life and property, calling for appropriate action against those responsible.
PM Karki assured the stakeholders that the government is committed to creating a secure environment for private businesses and implementing measures to facilitate their revival.
