Questions Arise Over Nepal Reinsurance CEO Surendra Thapa’s Return to Office

Kathmandu — Nepal Reinsurance Company CEO Surendra Thapa, who had earlier announced his resignation, has returned to office, raising questions about ethics and professional integrity within the company.
Thapa had reportedly announced his resignation during a board meeting on Ashoj 1 (September 17), stating he would no longer continue in his role. However, he did not submit a written resignation. Days later, on Ashoj 8 (September 24), he complained to the District Police Office, Kathmandu, claiming his life was in danger and alleging pressure from the board to resign.
Following the complaint, the company’s Chairman, Surendra Poudel, Deputy CEO, and employee union officials were called for a discussion at the police office. Sources state that after prolonged talks, an agreement was signed, allowing Thapa to continue as CEO.
Thapa had remained absent from office for several days after announcing his resignation. His return, after accusing his own colleagues of threatening him, has sparked debate in the insurance sector over workplace ethics and leadership credibility.
According to company sources, Thapa has resumed work but faces internal unease due to the controversy. Despite repeated attempts, Beemapost was unable to reach him for comment.
