Crisis Deepens at Nepal Reinsurance Following Board Resignations and Ongoing Allegations

October 19th, 2025

Kathmandu — Nepal Reinsurance Company is facing internal difficulties after several board members stepped down in recent weeks. The situation has been further complicated by allegations of financial irregularities involving Chief Executive Officer Surendra Thapa, though he has denied any wrongdoing.

According to officials within the company, two directors resigned earlier this month, and the resignations of two additional directors were accepted this week. In total, four directors have left their positions recently, prompting concern about leadership stability within the institution.

Employees have expressed that the company is under pressure on two fronts — the increased volume of claim payments related to the Gen-Z movement, and growing internal challenges concerning governance and management practices.

Some staff members have accused CEO Thapa of seeking commissions during claim settlements and engaging in irregularities related to company expenses. However, Thapa has publicly refuted the claims, telling Beemapost, “There has been no corruption, and I am not planning to run away.”

Thapa, who had earlier expressed his intention to resign during the first week of Ashoj month last year, has reportedly been considering leaving the company, though no formal decision has been made. Meanwhile, he has filed a complaint with the police against certain employees and management officials amid rising internal disputes.

Employees have urged the Ministry of Finance to review the situation and provide clear direction regarding the company’s leadership. They have also requested that appropriate steps be taken to ensure transparency and stability within the organization.
