Health Insurance Board Suspends Additional Renewal Fee System Temporarily

Kathmandu — The Health Insurance Board has announced that it has temporarily suspended the provision of charging additional fees to families who failed to renew their health insurance policies on time.
According to the Board’s latest directive, all registration assistants and registration officers have been instructed not to apply the additional fee system until further notice. The decision was made considering recent developments and the need for more time to set up the necessary administrative and technical structures, Information Officer Bikesh Malla confirmed.
The temporary suspension means that insured families who have not renewed their health insurance for a long time will not be required to pay additional charges when renewing for now.
Earlier, the Board had introduced the “Procedure for Renewing Insurance Policies of Citizens Affiliated with the Health Insurance Program, 2082” through a notice issued on Bhadra 11. The procedure had outlined a graded fee structure for late renewals, with additional charges ranging from 10 percent of the original contribution for renewals within three months of expiry to up to four times the amount for renewals after three years.
