Six Arrested in Kathmandu for Faking Car Accident to Claim Insurance
Kathmandu – Police have arrested six individuals on charges of fabricating a car accident and submitting false documents to claim insurance from Nepal Micro Insurance Company.
According to officials from the District Police Office, those taken into custody include 36-year-old Sunil Maharjan of Lalitpur’s Godavari Municipality-14, 33-year-old Bikesh Kunwar, 51-year-old Binod Dangol of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-12, 39-year-old Sunil Sapkota of Ishwarpur Municipality-3 in Sarlahi, 48-year-old Hari Prasad Gautam of Panchkhal Municipality-2 in Kavrepalanchok, and 45-year-old Manoj Kumar Acharya of Nijgad Municipality-6 in Bara.
Police investigations revealed that the group had staged a fake road accident, forged government seals and hospital documents, and even pretended to sustain injuries to support their fraudulent insurance claim. “They produced counterfeit documents and submitted them to Nepal Micro Insurance Company to obtain compensation,” an investigating officer said.
Authorities have also detained some company employees suspected of being involved in processing the false claim. The Kathmandu District Court has extended the remand of the accused for five days as the investigation continues under document forgery charges.
