Non-life insurance Companies collect Rs 12.92 billion in premiums in first quarter

Kathmandu – Non-life insurance companies in Nepal have collected a total premium of Rs 12.92 billion in the first quarter of the current fiscal year (FY), according to data released by the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).

Among the seven provinces, Bagmati Province accounted for the highest share, contributing Rs 8.86 billion, followed by Koshi Province with Rs 1.44 billion and Lumbini Province with Rs 1.10 billion. Similarly, companies collected Rs 852.3 million from Madhesh Province, Rs 651 million from Gandaki Province, Rs 289 million from Sudurpaschim Province, and the lowest amount—Rs 114.1 million—from Karnali Province.

By category, the largest premium collections came from motor insurance at Rs 4.26 billion, followed by property insurance at Rs 3.54 billion, engineering and contract risk insurance at Rs 1.60 billion, and miscellaneous insurance at Rs 1.48 billion. Other segments included marine insurance (Rs 740.5 million), aviation insurance (Rs 516.9 million), agriculture and crop insurance (Rs 499.3 million), and microinsurance (Rs 277.2 million).

In total, 780,613 non-life insurance policies were issued during the period. Of these, Bagmati Province led with 367,934 policies, followed by Lumbini (125,833), Koshi (89,547), Madhesh (78,434), Gandaki (68,721), Sudurpaschim (36,921), and Karnali (13,223).
