Nagdhunga Tunnel Inaugurated as Nepal Enters Tunnel Era

Kathmandu — The Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel officially opened on Monday, marking a major milestone in Nepal’s transport infrastructure development.

The tunnel was inaugurated during a special ceremony attended by Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru, and Japan International Cooperation Agency President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko.

Completed after nearly seven years of construction, the tunnel is expected to ease traffic congestion at the main gateway to the Kathmandu Valley, reduce travel time, and enhance road safety with modern transport infrastructure.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Minister Lamsal said the opening of the Nagdhunga Tunnel marks Nepal’s entry into the tunnel era. He added that the government plans to develop additional tunnels in strategic locations across the country to improve the efficiency and safety of the national road network.
