Nepal’s Non-Life Insurance Industry Grows 15% in a Year, Shikhar Remains No. 1
Kathmandu — Nepal’s non-life insurance industry posted another year of solid expansion, with the country’s 14 operating non-life insurers generating more than NPR 50.6 billion in gross written premiums during the fiscal year 2025/26.
According to the companies’ annual business figures, the sector collected NPR 50.60 billion in gross premiums, representing a 15.12% increase from NPR 43.96 billion recorded in the previous fiscal year.
Shikhar Insurance remained the market leader in terms of premium income, while Himalayan Everest Insurance and NLG Insurance recorded the strongest year-on-year growth.
Shikhar Insurance generated the highest premium income in the industry, collecting NPR 6.51 billion during the fiscal year, up 12.38% from the previous year.
Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance ranked second, with its gross written premiums increasing 8.40% to NPR 5.42 billion.
Among all insurers, Himalayan Everest Insurance and NLG Insurance delivered the fastest growth. Himalayan Everest’s premium income surged 31% to NPR 5.37 billion, while NLG posted an even stronger 37% increase, reaching NPR 4.20 billion.
Meanwhile, Siddhartha Premier Insurance reported a marginal 0.17% increase in gross premiums to NPR 4.31 billion. Neco Insurance grew 11.37% to NPR 3.65 billion, The Oriental Insurance rose 20% to NPR 3.25 billion, United Ajod Insurance increased 11.95% to NPR 3.11 billion, Nepal Insurance recorded an 8.77% rise to NPR 2.21 billion, and Prabhu Insurance expanded 8.21% to NPR 2.02 billion.
At the lower end of the market, Rastriya Beema Company and National Insurance reported the smallest premium volumes. During the fiscal year, Rastriya Beema Company generated NPR 1.58 billion in gross written premiums, while National Insurance collected NPR 1.29 billion.
