Pakistan Embassy Holds Kathmandu Seminar on Kashmir
Kathmandu — The Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu on Thursday organized a seminar titled “Kashmir’s Political Future: Legal, Diplomatic, and Strategic Perspectives,” bringing together journalists, writers, analysts and human rights activists.
During the event, messages from Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar were read out, reiterating Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue.
According to the embassy, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s “moral, political and diplomatic” support for the people of what Pakistan refers to as Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and said the dispute should be resolved in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Prime Minister Sharif described Jammu and Kashmir as one of the world’s longest unresolved international disputes, saying its continued status remained a challenge to regional peace and stability. He called on the international community to urge India to end alleged human rights violations in the region, reverse measures introduced since August 2019 and create conditions for a peaceful resolution of the dispute.
The leaders also criticized India’s policies in the region, alleging human rights violations and demographic changes.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Nepal, Mohammad Aamir Khan, said lasting peace in South Asia depended on a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute. Participants at the seminar expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people and called for dialogue and peaceful efforts to address differences between India and Pakistan.
