Himalaya Airlines to Relaunch Kathmandu–Shanghai Direct Flights

Himalaya Airlines will resume direct scheduled service between Kathmandu and Shanghai starting September 28, 2026, the airline announced this week.

The route will initially run twice weekly, connecting Nepal’s capital with one of China’s major commercial hubs. Airline officials described the move as a step toward strengthening air links between the two countries, with benefits expected for tourism, trade, and broader people-to-people exchange.

The Kathmandu–Shanghai corridor has been an important one for Himalaya Airlines’ China network, and its return comes amid renewed interest in reviving international air connectivity across the region following pandemic-era disruptions to many cross-border routes.
