Kathmandu: The Nepal Insurance Authority has instructed the insurance companies to resume the insurance literacy program. It has also instructed the currently operating insurance companies to conduct an insurance literacy program. It has designated several districts for life insurance companies to conduct their insurance literacy programs. Surya Prasad Silwal, chairman of the authority, informed that the committee has instructed all the operating insurance companies to go to their designated districts for increasing insurance literacy.  This step is taken after the insurance companies did not show sufficient interest in conducting the insurance literacy program, the insurance authority has again given instructions to the insurance companies. According to him, those life insurance companies should go to their respective districts and advertise (inform people) about their company’s insurance plans. ”Companies should go to the designated districts and spread the word about the insurance plans of their companies, inform them about the benefits of insurance in their companies,” he said, “for which companies can cooperate with local bodies.” He also said that cooperation with local bodies will increase insurance awareness in a deep way. He said that it is not possible to teach insurance by meeting people one-by-one. Therefore, he said, in order to increase the literacy of insurance, it is necessary to cooperate with the local bodies. And for that it is necessary to explain the importance and benefits of insurance to the local bodies first and then they will share with remaining local people. The conclusion of the authority is that if the benefits and needs of insurance are explained to the people’s representatives of the local bodies, they will help to explain the insurance to the people there. According to the authority life insurance companies should have a literacy program related to life insurance and non-life insurance companies should have a literacy program related to non-life insurance.
