International Insurance Conference Postponed Due to Adverse Weather Conditions

October 7th, 2024

Kathmandu, The highly anticipated three-day international insurance conference, organized by the Nepal Insurance Authority, has been postponed. Originally scheduled for 7 to 9 October 2024 (mid-Ashoj), the event was set to bring together key stakeholders in the insurance sector from across Asia, including the annual meeting of the Asian Forum of Insurance Regulators (AFIR). However, due to continuous heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides across various regions of Nepal, the organizers have decided to delay the event.

The AFIR conference, which had been in preparation for several months, was scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from 7th to 9th Oct 2024 (Ashoj 21 to Ashoj 23, 2081). The Nepal Insurance Authority stated that the current environmental conditions have made it difficult to hold the conference as planned. In particular, concerns about the safety and convenience of international guests played a significant role in the decision to postpone the event.

While the physical conference has been postponed, the annual general meeting of AFIR, originally set for 9th October, will still take place virtually as planned. This decision ensures that key discussions and decisions can proceed, even as logistical issues caused by the weather are addressed.

The Nepal Insurance Authority will announce new dates for the postponed events once coordination with AFIR is complete.
