Farmers’ Access to Agricultural Insurance is Very Low

Kathmandu: It has been found that the access of farmers to agricultural insurance is low. The 7th National Agricultural Census has released such data. According to which, it has been found that 96 percent of farmers are out of reach of insurance for agricultural products.

According to the results of the seventh census of the public last April-May 2021, only 182,400 farmers across the country have access to insurance so far. Which is only 4 percent of the total number of farming families. That is, 39 lakh 48 thousand 300 farmer families are still far from the reach of insurance.

According to the statistics, 84 percent of the farmers who have access to insurance have said that they have insurance only for livestock. 14,000 for food crops, 5,800 for vegetable crops, 5,200 for fruit crops and 9,600 for poultry.

Similarly, 154,000 farmers have taken insurance for animal husbandry, while only 4,300 fish rearing farmers have access to insurance. It is mentioned in the statistics that awareness and access to insurance in other areas of agriculture is even weaker.
