Authority is preparing Preliminary Draft to introduce Separate Insurance Scheme for Doctors
Kathmandu : For the first time in Nepal, Nepal Insurance Authority, the regulatory body of insurance companies, is going to introduce an insurance scheme for doctors working in the medical field. The insurance authority is about to bring this insurance scheme in coordination with the Nepal Medical Council.
According to the authority, it is currently discussing with the medical council about which topics should be included in the doctor insurance plan and how to bear the risk. According to the preliminary discussion, the draft for the scheme has been prepared, according to the source of the authority.
Sources of the authority said that if the insurance authority has a hand in this and the patient dies during the treatment, even if the family of the deceased files a case against the doctor, they are going to bring a plan to cover it.
In the scheme, if the family of the deceased patient files a death claim and proceeds with the court process, the authority is preparing to defend the legal amount as well. For this, the authority will issue a short term policy. The duration of which will be one year.
