Government Initiates Process for Appointment of New Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority
Kathmandu – The government has begun a new process for the appointment of the chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority. The process began with the formation of a recommendation committee during a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday.
The newly formed committee will be led by the member overseeing insurance at the National Planning Commission, Finance Secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire, with Jyoti Chandra Ojha serving as an expert member. The committee will be responsible for preparing its work procedures, shortlisting three candidates for the position of chairman, and submitting the list to the Government of Nepal. The final appointment will be made by the Council of Ministers from the shortlisted candidates.
The position of chairman has been vacant since the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIIA) filed a case against the previous chairman, Surya Prasad Silwal, in a special court. In the interim, Madan Dahal, the representative of the Ministry of Finance at the authority, has been serving as the acting chairman.
