Karnali Government Implements ‘Ghar Beema’ Program for Disaster-Affected Homes

Kathmandu – The Karnali provincial government has launched the ‘Ghar Beema’ program to provide financial relief to residents who lose their homes due to natural disasters. To address delays in reconstruction, the government has introduced this program, which insures private residential houses up to Rs 2 million.
Government spokesperson Binod Kumar Shah stated that the initiative aims to ensure the financial security of homeowners permanently residing in Karnali. The program follows the property insurance directive issued by the Nepal Insurance Authority, with technical personnel evaluating insurable houses.
Local governments will recommend eligible homes based on state-defined criteria. Insurance will be provided by designated companies, including both existing and newly selected ones. The program covers houses damaged by earthquakes, fires, floods, landslides, strong winds, lightning, hailstorms, air accidents, and other natural disasters.
The provincial government will cover the insurance premium, and once all procedures are completed, the insurance amount will be paid within 15 days. A local government recommendation and a debit note from the insurance company are required for the claim process.
