Nepal Insurance Authority Organizes Insurance Interaction and Discussion Program in Dhangadhi

Kathmandu – The Nepal Insurance Authority organized an interaction and discussion program on insurance with the Sudurpaschim Province government in Dhangadhi, aiming to enhance insurance accessibility and policy formulation in the region.

Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Kamal Bahadur Shah, attended the event as the chief guest and expressed his commitment to drafting a provincial insurance law and policy to support the development of the sector. He highlighted ongoing efforts such as insuring women volunteers and proposed the introduction of disaster insurance. He also emphasized the need to simplify claim processes to minimize difficulties for policyholders.

Hira Sarki, Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of Sudurpaschim Province, pledged to take initiatives to link common citizens with insurance, enhance subsidies, and integrate insurance with disaster preparedness measures.

Sharad Ojha, Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority, reassured that the Authority would prioritize both policyholders’ interests and the financial sustainability of insurers. He stressed the importance of expanding agricultural insurance through municipal and ward structures and stated that the Authority would support the formulation of policies.

Sushil Dev Subedi, Executive Director of Nepal Insurance Authority, presented an overview of the insurance sector, highlighting existing challenges and the role of the provincial government in expanding access. He urged the province to designate an insurance contact person under the Ministry of Economic Affairs to streamline efforts.

During the discussion, participants voiced concerns about insurers assessing customers’ ability to pay premiums before issuing policies. They also called for enhanced monitoring of insurance companies, more efficient claim settlements, and stronger initiatives to promote agricultural insurance.

The event saw participation from key provincial officials, including Megh Raj Khadka, Minister of State for Economic Affairs; Prakash Bahadur Bam, Minister of State for Physical Infrastructure Development; Nirmala Devi Saud, Chief Secretary of the provincial government; Dr. Kamal Prasad Pokharel, along with secretaries of various ministries, the Chief Advocate, municipal leaders, and provincial Insurance Corporation heads.
