Commercial Banks Earn NPR 56.5 Billion Profit in 10 Months; Nabil Leads, Kumari Shows Aggressive Growth, NIC at the Bottom

Kathmandu — Commercial banks have succeeded in earning nearly NPR 56.5 billion in profit during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year 2025/26(2082/83). According to data published by the Nepal Rastra Bank up to mid-May 2026 (end of Baisakh), the country’s 20 commercial banks posted a combined profit of NPR 56.47 billion.

The profit earned by the banks is 18.16 percent higher than in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year 2024/25 (2081/82). During the first 10 months of the last fiscal year, commercial banks had earned NPR 47.79 billion in profit.

The data for the current fiscal year shows that 13 banks increased their profits, while 7 banks reported a decline.

Among all commercial banks, Nabil Bank ranked first in terms of profit. The bank increased its profit by 36.37 percent over the last 10 months, taking it to NPR 7.66 billion. During the same period of the previous fiscal year, the bank had recorded a profit of NPR 5.60 billion.

As of mid-May 2026, Global IME Bank, which ranked second in terms of profit, saw its earnings decline by 3.07 percent to NPR 5.19 billion.

During the review period, Kumari Bank and Rastriya Banijya Bank emerged as the strongest performers in terms of profit growth. Kumari Bank’s profit jumped by 833 percent to NPR 4.49 billion, while Rastriya Banijya Bank’s profit rose by 81.64 percent to NPR 3.21 billion.

By mid-May 2026, Nepal Investment Mega Bank’s profit had declined by 24 percent to NPR 3.80 billion, Everest Bank’s profit fell by 5 percent to NPR 3.70 billion, Prime Commercial Bank’s profit increased by 31 percent to NPR 3.40 billion, NMB Bank’s profit rose by 19.93 percent to NPR 3.14 billion, Nepal Bank’s profit declined by 9 percent to NPR 2.98 billion, Sanima Bank’s profit increased by 43 percent to NPR 2.68 billion, Laxmi Sunrise Bank’s profit grew by 14 percent to NPR 2.46 billion, Siddhartha Bank’s profit rose by 18 percent to NPR 2.38 billion, and Standard Chartered Bank Nepal’s profit edged up by 0.42 percent to NPR 2.35 billion.

Meanwhile, Machhapuchchhre Bank posted a profit of NPR 1.88 billion, Nepal SBI Bank earned NPR 1.68 billion, Agricultural Development Bank recorded NPR 1.59 billion, Citizens Bank International posted NPR 1.49 billion, and Prabhu Bank earned NPR 1.16 billion.

Himalayan Bank and NIC Asia Bank recorded the lowest profits during the period. Although Himalayan Bank’s profit increased by 17 percent, it remained limited to NPR 802.8 million.

Meanwhile, NIC Asia Bank appears to be facing a continuing downturn. The bank’s profit has fallen below that of some development banks. During the review period, its profit declined by 30.44 percent, shrinking to just NPR 330 million.
