eSewa Offers Digital Health Insurance with Coverage of Up to Rs. 600,000
Kathmandu — Nepal’s leading digital payment platform, eSewa, has expanded access to affordable health insurance through its partnership with Shikhar Insurance, offering the Sahara Health Insurance plan entirely through its mobile app.
The digital insurance product provides health and accident coverage of up to Rs. 600,000, with premiums starting at Rs. 1,399, making it one of the more accessible insurance options available to the general public.
The policy can be purchased or renewed within minutes through the eSewa app, eliminating the need for paperwork or visits to an insurance company’s branch office.
Customers can choose health insurance coverage of Rs. 100,000, Rs. 200,000, or Rs. 500,000, depending on their needs and age. The plan covers hospitalization of 24 hours or more, cashless treatment at more than 25 partner hospitals, over 150 daycare procedures, and eligible medical expenses incurred both before hospital admission and after discharge. It also includes accidental death and disability coverage of up to Rs. 100,000.
The policy is available to individuals aged 5 to 65 years. Customers can purchase coverage for themselves or their family members by selecting the Insurance section of the eSewa app, entering the required information, choosing their preferred coverage, and completing payment digitally. The insurance policy is issued instantly upon successful payment.
According to eSewa, the Sahara Health Insurance plan is designed to reduce the financial burden associated with illness, accidents, and medical emergencies while making quality health insurance more accessible through a simple digital process.
“With affordable premiums, a seamless digital experience, and comprehensive coverage, we remain committed to expanding access to health insurance and strengthening the financial security of more Nepalis,” the company said.
Since its launch in September 2024, the insurance plan has benefited more than 10,000 customers in less than a year. As part of its broader digital financial services strategy, eSewa said it continues to expand its insurance offerings through partnerships with multiple insurers to make insurance products more widely accessible across Nepal.
