Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu Marks July Mass Uprising Day

Kathmandu  — The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu on Wednesday observed July Mass Uprising Day, marking the second anniversary of the 2024 movement that led to major political change in Bangladesh.

The event began with a minute of silence in memory of those killed during the uprising, followed by the reading of messages from Bangladesh’s top leadership, documentary screenings and a special prayer.

Professor Dr. A. S. M. Amanullah, Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Bangladesh, said the youth-led movement highlighted the need for stronger democratic institutions and emphasized continued democratic governance. SAARC Secretary General Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar stressed the importance of good governance, protection of citizens’ rights and stronger regional cooperation.

Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Nepal, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury Rahman, described the July Mass Uprising as a defining moment in the country’s democratic journey and said the government remains committed to accountable governance and national development under the “Bangladesh First” policy.

The event was attended by members of the Bangladeshi community in Nepal, representatives of regional organizations, civil society and Nepali youth.
