Insurers Begin Advance Claim Payments for Bhotekoshi Flood Victims, NPR 6.75 Million Paid So Far
Kathmandu — Insurance companies have started making advance claim payments to policyholders affected by the Bhotekoshi floods following the Nepal Insurance Authority’s introduction of a simplified claims procedure. Non-life insurers have so far paid NPR 6.748 million to policyholders through pre-claim settlements.
Initial data show that insurance claims worth approximately NPR 20.98 billion have been reported so far, while only NPR 6.75 million has been paid through pre-claim settlements. Insurance company officials say the Insurance Authority’s directive on flood and landslide claims will make the process easier for policyholders and is expected to increase the ratio of advance claim settlements.
According to data from the Nepal Insurance Authority, the payments have been made to flood-affected policyholders in the Rasuwa, Bhotekoshi and Trishuli areas.
How Much Has Been Paid by Insurance Category?
Property insurance has accounted for the largest amount of payments through pre-claim settlements so far. By the second week of October 2026, insurance companies had paid NPR 3.814 million in property insurance claims.
More than NPR 2.4 million had been paid under third-party insurance, while NPR 22,000 had been paid through travel insurance. More than NPR 500,000 had also been paid under other insurance categories.

Which Companies Have Paid the Most?
United Ajod Insurance has made the highest pre-claim settlement payments so far. The company had paid NPR 3.3 million by October 12, 2026.
Shikhar Insurance ranked second, having paid NPR 2.662 million in claims during the period. NLG Insurance ranked third, with NPR 750,000 in claim payments.
The government had instructed the Nepal Insurance Authority to create a simplified environment for disaster victims so that insured policyholders would not have to endure unnecessary procedural complications in obtaining their claims
In response, the Insurance Authority introduced the “Brief Procedure for Rasuwa Flood Claim Payments, 2083,” allowing insurance companies to settle claims of up to NPR 500,000 without appointing a surveyor.
The procedure, approved by the Authority’s Board of Directors, has come into effect and is intended to allow flood-affected policyholders to receive their insurance claims through a simpler and faster process.
