Government Eases Vehicle Insurance Renewal by Removing Administrative Hurdles
Kathmandu — Vehicle owners can now obtain or renew insurance without visiting a Transport Management Office in person, following a government decision to simplify administrative procedures.
The Department of Transport Management said the change was introduced through an amendment to the Transport Management Procedures Directive, 2060. A ministerial-level meeting at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development decided to streamline vehicle registration, ownership transfers and insurance renewals.
The revised provision is expected to save vehicle owners time and money while making the process more convenient.
The government has also simplified registration and ownership transfer procedures for private and public vehicles. During the first ownership transfer, inspections previously conducted by dealers at the Transport Management Office will be recognized, removing the need to bring vehicles back for another inspection.
If a buyer cannot attend the office in person, registration and ownership transfer can be completed through an authorized representative acting under a power of attorney.
The department also said it would expand technical access to the Vehicle Registration System (VRS) to make ownership transfers more efficient and systematic.
