Kathmandu – The Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) convened a high-level discussion and interaction program with key stakeholders from the insurance and reinsurance sector. The program was held at the Marriott Hotel in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The event brought together top executives and departmental heads of insurance and reinsurance companies, including Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority Sharad Ojha, Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Association Birendra Baidwar Chhetri, CEO of Nepal Reinsurance Company Surendra Thapa, CEO of Himalayan Reinsurance Company Upasana Poudel, as well as officials representing reinsurance broker firms.

The interaction served as a mandatory platform for CEOs and departmental staff to openly discuss ongoing challenges, regulatory concerns, and policy implementations in the reinsurance domain.

Deputy Director of the Nepal Insurance Authority, Ram Koju, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the reinsurance arrangements for the fiscal year 2080. His briefing focused on reinsurance guidelines, structural arrangements, and broker commission provisions.

Further insights were shared through working papers presented by Surendra Thapa (Nepal Re), Upasana Poudel (Himalayan Re), and Birendra Baidwar Chhetri (Nepal Insurance Association), each addressing critical aspects of reinsurance operations and regulatory compliance.

During the session, issues surrounding reinsurance commissions were raised by participants. In response, Chairman Ojha addressed the concerns directly and assured the stakeholders that the Authority remains committed to transparency and efficiency in the sector.

He further urged both reinsurance companies and brokers to adopt a result-oriented approach and enhance the effectiveness of their operations.
